International Workshop: Tensor Network States: Algorithms and Applications, December 1-5, 2014, Beijing

 

 

Tensor network states have in recent years emerged as a powerful theoretical tool to study quantum collective phenomena. Some of the most popular tensor networks, such as the matrix product state (MPS), the multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA), and the projected entangled-pair states (PEPS), are currently used by many groups as the basis for variational approaches to many-body systems. However, the tensor network formalism goes well beyond numerical methods, and it is also used e.g., as a natural framework to classify phases of quantum matter, or as a lattice realization of the holographic principle of string theory.

 

The workshop "Tensor Network States: Algorithms and Applications" will be held in the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on December 1-5, 2014. In this workshop we will bring together experts on tensor network algorithms and their wide spectrum of applications, from statistical mechanics to condensed matter, from quantum chemistry to nano-technology and high energy physics. Morning research talks will be complemented with pedagogical lectures and tutorials in the afternoons.

The Asia-Pacific Workshop on Strongly Correlated System 2014 (APW2014), October 9-11, 2014, Beijing

 

 

The Asia-Pacific Workshop on Strongly Correlated Systems 2014 (APW2014) was held at the Institute of Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences from October 9 to 11, 2014. The APW is a series of workshops. Since its first initiation in 2001, the APW has been held in various cities in Asia-Pacific region, including Sendai, Hong-Kong, Beijing, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, etc. In this workshop we have brought together experts on the research of strongly correlated systems to discuss the new progress of high Tc superconductivity, topological aspects of condensed matter, spintronics, 2D materials, frustrated quantum spin system and so on.

The Beijing International Workshop (II) on Iron-Based Superconductors (BIIS2014), August 4-7, 2014, Beijing

 

 

The Beijing International Workshop (II) on Iron-Based Superconductors(BIIS2014) was held in the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on August 4-7, 2014. This workshop was foucused on iron-based and other novel superconductors. The goal is to increase mutual communications among the participants, and to advance understanding superconductivity. There are nearly 50 invited participants from all over the world at the Workshop.

 

This workshop was organized by Prof. Tao Xiang, Prof. Nanlin Wang, Prof. Hong Ding, Prof. Xingjiang Zhou and Prof. Jiangping Hu of IOP, CAS. The 7th Cross-Strait and International Conference on Quantum Manipulation, June 28-30, 2013, Beijing

Quantum manipulation is one of four major programs in fundamental frontier research that are included in the “National Medium- and Long-Term Plan for Science and Technology Development (2006-2020)”, drawn up by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. It is also one of the most significant areas of research on the international scene. With this background, the 7th Cross-Strait and International Conference on Quantum Manipulation was held from June 28-30, 2013 in the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing.
