Zhong Fang
Career History: Male, born in Hubei in 1970, graduated from Department of Physics at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1991, and then received his PhD in 1996. In 1996 to 2003, He had visited Japan, the United States and other countries more advanced research institutions. In 2003 he selected CAS "Hundred Talents" and was selectively supported, to return the work in the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences as Research Professor. He was the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation In 2004, and was selected a national candidate of Hundred Talents Project. In 2007 as the Chief Scientist Ministry of Science, he took research projects of "Quantum control of major research program", received funding as Academic leaders in the Foundation of Innovative Research Group in 2008, and received awards of “Mao Yisheng” and ICTP issued by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in 2008.
Research Interests: He mainly engaged in the calculation of condensed matter physics research, that is, the use of modern large-scale parallel computer, studying the properties of materials to explore the microscopic system of physical laws by means of calculation and simulation to predict the structure and physical properties of materials and their mutual relations, and providing a scientific basis for the development and application of new materials, new information storage and transmission methods.
1. The first principles calculations of New functional materials, electronic, magnetic, and optical properties,
2. Singular properties of strongly correlated system,
3. Large-scale quantum simulation ,such as organic materials, nano-systems, superlattice, surface and interface
Research Experience (1) Developed a Large-scale parallel computing package BATATE (Beijing Simulational Tool for Atom Technology), which is with self-owned intellectual property right. Proposed and implemented a Computational Method called LDA + Gutzwiller suitable for strongly correlated electron systems.
(2) Mainly Covered three research areas, 1. the physical properties of strongly correlated systems, such as superconductivity, super magnetoresistance, ferroelectric, magnetic phase diagram, orbital ordered state, etc; 2. researches and new methods development on First Principle calculation of large-scale or complex systems, including surfaces and interfaces, nano-structure, non-collinear magnetic, linear Scale method, LDA + U method; 3. Magnetic, optical and electrical Properties of low dimensional systems and organic systems.Published more than 60 papers in SCI, containing 3 Science papers, 1 Nature Phys. paper, 14 Phys. Rev. Lett. papers, which have been cited more than 1400 times.
Students Plan to recruit three postgraduates and doctors.
